Formally, sintered stone and porcelain stoneware are relatives: both are produced by sintering a mineral body. The difference lies in composition, density and achievable format — and it is measurable.

Where the difference shows on site
Format. This is the main practical distinction. 3200 × 1600 mm against 2400 × 1000 mm is not a little bigger — it is a different layout logic: a wall or worktop runs seamless where porcelain stoneware would have demanded a joint. The joint stops being inevitable and becomes a design decision.

Stain resistance. Class 5 against Class 3–4 shows up on kitchen worktops and in public areas: where porcelain stoneware requires a spill to be wiped promptly, sintered stone forgives the delay.
Composition. The absence of clay and compounds means the material is uniform through its full thickness, and that matters most at exposed edges and cuts. Classic porcelain stoneware is a body with a coloured surface layer: chip it and a lighter filling is often visible underneath.

Where there is effectively no difference
Fire safety: both categories are A1. Maintenance: neither requires sealing. Weight at equal thickness: 22 against 24 kg/m², a difference that falls inside the margin of structural calculation.
When porcelain stoneware is enough
If the project does not call for large formats, the surface is not exposed to aggressive staining and no edge is left open, mass-market porcelain stoneware covers the job.
There is no sense in paying for properties that will never be used. The question is not which material is better in the abstract, but which of its properties this particular project actually needs.
